Definition
The results analysis method determines how the following results analysis data are calculated in the period-end closing process of the Product Cost by Sales Order component:

Use
You choose a results analysis method in the Product Cost by Period component in the following situations:
- When you want to use a valuated sales order stock and capitalize goods that have been delivered but not yet invoiced
- When you want to use a valuated sales order stock and automatically create reserves
- When you are using a nonvaluated sales order stock. Here you must always choose a results analysis method because in this case you can only valuate your inventories of finished and unfinished goods using results analysis.
You choose a results analysis method to calculate revenue in excess of billings when you want to capitalize profits that have not been realized. These methods are mainly used in North America and the United Kingdom, but can also be used in parallel with conservative valuation methods for internal information purposes.
If you do not want show unrealized profits in your balance sheet, choose a results analysis method to calculate the capitalized costs.
Procedure
Choose one of the results analysis methods in Simplified Customizing for the valuation method.
Dependencies
To calculate the inventory values and for automatic creation of reserves, perform results analysis in the period-end closing of Product Cost by Sales Order.
To capitalize the inventories and to show the reserves as a liability in Financial Accounting, and to transfer results analysis data to Profitability Analysis and Profit Center Accounting, perform the settlement process in period-end closing.
