Procedure

Enter the number of tolerance days by which the customer can shift the cumulative released quantity from the new forecast delivery schedule to the old forecast delivery schedule (or from the new JIT delivery schedule to the current forecast delivery schedule).

Use

Schedule lines in the new forecast/JIT delivery schedule are checked against schedule lines in the old/current forecast delivery schedule on the basis of the values you enter here and in the tolerance quantity and tolerance percent fields. The system carries out the check only if you have maintained this field. If you have left the field blank or have entered a 0, the system will not carry out the check.

A schedule line is valid when:

  • the cumulative released quantity of the new delivery schedule does not exceed (in the case of increasing quantities) or fall below (in the case of decreasing quantities) the cumulative released quantity of the one to which it is being compared by more than the tolerance quantity/percent

    OR
  • the cumulative released quantity of the new delivery schedule is less than or equal to (in the case of increasing quantities) the cumulative released quantity of the one to which it is being compared on the schedule line date plus tolerance days

    OR
  • the cumulative released quantity of the new delivery schedule is greater than or equal to (in the case of decreasing quantities) the cumulative released quantity of the one to which it is being compared on the schedule line date minus tolerance days

When one of the three checks is run successfully, the check as a whole is considered successful. The system does not carry out any further checks.

The system carries out its checks only for the period in which schedule lines exist for the releases (start and end dates).

Example

The following example of a new forecast delivery schedule shows how the system carries out a check against tolerance days.

Tolerance days: 3

Schedule lines Old cml.qty New cml.qty

08/01 1000

08/02 1100 1200

08/03 1300

08/04 1300

08/05 1400 1400

08/06 1500 1500

08/07 1600

Time frame of comparison: 08/02 to 08/06

Check of 08/02 deadline:

There is an increase in the cumulative quantity from 1100 to 1200. The system checks whether there is a cumulative released quantity that is greater than or equal to 1200 lying within three days of the old release (i.e. 08/05). It finds such a cumulative quantity on 08/04 confirming that the customer has shifted some of the quantity from 08/04 to 08/02. The check is successful.

The other deadlines in the new scheduling agreement release are checked in the same way. The system reverses the direction of the check in relation to time and quantity for decreasing quantities.

Note

A new JIT delivery schedule is checked against the current forecast delivery schedule and not against the old JIT delivery schedule. This is because JIT delivery schedules should follow the forecast delivery schedule as closely as possible.

Remember that the system will accept a change in quantity if it lies within the allowed limit. To be safe, you should therefore have reserve stocks on hand which cover the number of tolerance days.
