Definition
A component is the object that will drive the population of an output field. The component is made up of one or more parts, each part relates to the building of a portion of the output field being populated. The sequence in which component parts are configured, may influence the value of the output field being populated.
Three methods of data derivation may be assigned to a component part:
- value derived from a constant / literal
- value derived from the contents of another field
- value derived as a result of executing a form routine, which extracts the required data by reading tables, performing calculations, etc.
The field type and field variable make up a component part.
