Definition

Unit of measure in which stocks of material are recorded. The system converts all quantities recorded in different units of measure (alternative units of measure) into this base unit of measure.

The base unit of measure has the same importance as the stockkeeping unit in inventory management.

Dependencies

Since all updates are performed using the base unit of measure, it is particularly important to make settings for converting alternative units of measure. A quantity recorded using an alternative unit of measure can only be represented exactly if it can be recorded properly using the available decimal places. To ensure that this takes place correctly, you should take note of the following principles:

• The base unit of measure is the most precise unit of measure used.
• Conversions of alternative units of measure to the base unit of measure should lead to simple decimal fractions (not 1/3 = 0.333...).
