Definition
Multiplier for calculating the item-dependent fee when the addition rule is applied.
Example
A bag of candy is processed via DSD. The candy wrappings can be classified in the smallest area category due to their low weight and small area and are consequently to be calculated according to the addition rule. To determine the number of wrappings that are to be settled on the basis of an item-dependent fee, category x, the specified weight limit must be divided by the weight of a single wrapping:
- Bag of candy with 50 wrappings
- Weight of single wrapping 0.12 g
- Weight limit 2 g
Thus: 2 g / 0.12 g = 16.66 -> rounded off: 16 wrappings
For 16 wrappings, an item-dependent fee of 0.1 cents must be paid or a wrapping is calculated with 1/16 item-dependent fee. The item-dependent fee for 50 wrappings is calculated as follows:
50 x 1/16 x 0.1 cents = 0.3125 cents
Consequently, for 50 wrappers, an item-dependent fee of 0.1 cents is charged 3.125 times. The value determined (3.125) is called the FACTOR.
