This is the inflation index that the system uses to adjust materials by means of the Inflation Index Adjustment program. The system uses it for all materials assigned to a particular material inflation class, unless you explicitly assign a material a different inflation index.

You can maintain inflation indexes in Customizing for Materials Management (MM), by choosing Valuation and Account Assignment -> Balance Sheet Valuation Procedures -> Configure Replacement Cost Procedure (Inflation) -> Inflation Methods -> Maintain Inflation Methods.
