Documentation
Definition
The ID code is used to identify and classify the media product family, media product and media issue objects. The ID code is defined in greater detail by the ID code type.
Use
The following related entries are required to assign an ID code:
- ID code
- ID code type.
Since you can assign the ID code at any stage after the respective object has been created, it is not therefore a technical key field (see also material number).
A special check logic can be used for the ID code depending on the ID code type.
Example
An ID code (for example of the ISBN or ISSN ID code type) is to be reused for several media issues during the lifecycle of a media product. Media issues can exist during development phases in which an ID code has not yet been assigned.
Dependencies
The ID code assignment can be organized using areas and number ranges.
You can assign several ID codes to each media product master record. The characteristics of the ID code type determine whether or not a media product master can be assigned several ID codes belonging to the same ID code type. The characteristics also determine whether an ID code can be assigned to several media product master records.
