Documentation
Definition
The retroactive payment amount is the compensation benefit to which a claimant is entitled once he or she has been unable to work for at least the defined retroactive period.
The prerequisite for payment is that the waiting period is over as well.
Use
The retroactive payment amount is used to compensate a claimant, whose disability has exceeded a certain time period, for the waiting period as well.
The retroactive payment amount is calculated from the waiting period (in weeks) multiplied with the compensation benefit (per week).
Dependencies
The weekly benefit payments and the waiting period are needed for the calculation.
Example
The waiting period is 3 days and the retroactive period is 14 days.
This results in:
- If a person has been injured and unable to work for two days, no compensation is paid. (The waiting period is not yet over.)
- If a person has been injured and unable to work for seven days, this person receives compensation for four days. (The waiting period is over, but the retroactive period is not yet over.)
- If a person has been injured and unable to work for 15 days, this person receives compensation for the full 15 days. (The retroactive period is over. This means that the claimant is entitled to compensation for the full period of disability retroactively for the three days waiting period as well.)
