Definition
With this option you can change the policy product (or the internal claim type) for new claims after a certain time upon renewal of the contract. The system interprets the time entered as matching the time zone entered in your user defaults, and converts this to UTC.
The system creates a new generation of the product (or internal claim type) together with a new version.
If the time entered is in the past when activation in the production system takes place, only those claims created after activation are automatically handled in accordance with the changes.
Claims created beforehand are handled in accordance with the old generation. This avoids any conceivable inconsistency. You should not perform this assignment with large changes, because far-ranging inconsistencies could occur.
Use
You would use this option, for example, if you want to make a change that is to the disadvantage of the policyholder, and that should take effect as from the next calendar year. It does not become effective until the next renewal of the contract after the valid-from time entered. If contracts are never renewed, the change only applies to new contracts.
You can also use this option if you want to include an existing product in the SAP system for the first time. You have to enter times in the past to create the complete history of the product. You can make the appropriate settings for all old generations of the product for which contracts are still in force.
