Definition
Determines the morphology with a diagnosis.
If you want to capture the histological type of tumors, you can use a separate morphology classification. However, this classification should be based on the second edition of the International Classification of Diseases for Oncology (ICD-O).
The morphology codes have six characters,
- the first four characters indicate the histological type
- the fifth character indicates the degree of malignancy (malignant primary, malignant secondary (metastatic), in situ, benign, uncertain whether malignant or benign)
- the sixth character is a code for classification of the differentiation degree of solid tumors that is also used as the special code for lymphoma and leukemia.
