Definition

The difference ( goodwill or negative goodwill) can be dealt with as follows:

• If 1 is entered : Activation/Amortization
  The difference is activated and amortized over its useful life, with an affect on net income.

• If 2 is entered : Direct elimination
  The difference is eliminated using an equity item in the year in which it occurred, with no affect on net income.

• If 3 is entered : Proportional elimination
  The difference is activated and eliminated periodically using an equity item, with no affect on net income.

• If 4 is entered : Statistical
  The difference is shown using statistical items for reporting purposes. This is only possible when using the equity method with the book value method.
