Use

Main transactions and subtransactions fulfill three functions:

  • They document which aspect of a business transaction or process form the basis for the line entry item. A short description is assigned to each main and subtransaction for this purpose, and can be used in correspondence.
  • In many processes, main and subtransactions can influence automatic account determination.
  • An internal main transaction can be assigned to the main transaction, and an internal subtransaction can be assigned to the subtransaction. Internal transactions control the way in which application-specific processing programs run.

The subtransaction differentiates the main transaction.

Procedure

If your application area uses main and subtransactions, specify these during document entry.

Example

Utility companies may use the following main transactions:

The budget billing main transaction may comprise the following subtransactions:

  • Budget billing request (statistical posting)
  • Budget billing request (actual posting)
  • Budget billing payment
