The value the system displays for the density and the unit comes from the property tree of the specification of the substance, that is, from the value assignment type and the characteristic. You have defined this value assignment type and the characteristic in Customizing for Formulas in the FRML_ESTCAT_DENSITY or FRML_ATNAM_DENSITY environment parameters in the Define and Assign Values to Environment Parameters IMG activity.
The system uses the density to convert volume into mass and mass back into volume.
