Definition
If most of the clearing costs are only broken out into cost element based categories, as benefits and payroll tax, then the identity of where within clearing these costs came from is mostly lost. Therefore you are able to assign the clearing objects to separate clearing groups.
Example
By assigning all Fleet clearing cost centers to clearing group Fleet, you can identify for instance, Fleet Benefits or Fleet Labor, with the understanding that that labor may have come from a non-Fleet clearing cost center, but that it was allocated via Fleet. Separate percentage calculations are performed for the various clearing groups, so that group Fleet would have its own Fleet benefits percentage calculation.
