Definition

The clearing item for postings across consolidation units enables you to clear the balance sheets and income statements of the given consolidation units. In each posting document, the balance for each consolidation unit is determined and posted to the clearing item.

Use

Clearing items can only be defined in document types that have a posting level greater or equal to 20. Postings across consolidation units can only occur with these document types.

Procedure

Enter a clearing item if you want to clear balances for each individual consolidation unit when posting consolidation entries.

Depending on the business application of the document type, SAP in general recommends the following applications for the clearing item:

  • for the elimination of receivables/payables: balance sheet item
  • for the elimination of revenue/expense: income statement item
  • for the elimination of investment income
    • w/appr. of RE in the balance sheet: balance sheet item
    • w/appr. of RE after the income statement: income statement item
  • for the consolidation of investments: balance sheet item
