Definition

This wage type stores the NIC neutrality cost which the employee must pay. This is the difference in cost between the flexed value and standard value, in a flexible benefits scheme where National insurance cost neutrality has been applied.

This wage type will be generated when payroll is run.

Example

An employer offers a flexible benefits holiday plan, and applies the NI Neutrality principle to this plan. An employee enrols in this plan and chooses the flex option to sell two days annual holiday, the value of this "sell" being GBP 34.62.

Therefore:

  •     The standard value (before the flex option is chosen) is GBP 288.46 per month
  •     The flexed value (after the employee decides to sell two days holiday) is GBP 253.84 per month
  •     The difference between standard and flexed value is GBP 34.62 per month (value of the holiday sell)
  •     As a result of holiday selling, employer NI contributions are increased by GBP 3.65 per month. It is this     value that is stored in this wage type which will be paid by the employee in the form of a salary     adjustment when payroll is run.
