Definition

This indicator controls the point in time at which the Functional area is determined by the system during document entry.

  1. If you set this indicator, the functional area is already determined and displayed by the system on the entry screen when entering a document.
In this case, the functional area is determined on the basis of information contained in the coding block (structure COBL)
  2. The indicator is not set in the standard settings for all company codes for which no deviating settings have been made.

Remarks:

  1. Up to and including release 4.6 this setting was not possible in the system: The functional area was first determined by the system when saving.
  2. If you are using callpoint 0005 as a substitution for component FI to determine the functional area, please note the following:
The substitution uses the account document structures ACCHD und ACCIT.
The final accounting document that is comprised of the structures ACCHD and ACCIT is, however, not built up until the point of saving.
The system temporarily transforms the COBL structure into the structures ACCHD and ACCIT in order to call up these structure on the entry screen.
The temporarily built up structures ACCHD und ACCIT do not, as a rule, contain the same information as the ACCHD and ACCIT structure that are built up later during saving.
The determination of the functional area on the document entry screen could therefore yield another functional area different to the one determined when saving.
  3. In some business transactions, the functional area cannot be determined on the entry screen.
Example: Posting of CO internal assessments or distributions.
In such cases, the functional area can not be determined in the entry screen.
The system therefore uses the following logic in order to determine the functional area:
If the posting program determines when saving that the functional area is not initial even though the indicator "Determine functional area in entry screen" is set, the functional area will be determined when saving.
  4. If you set the indicator, the functional area can not be manually entered when posting to balance sheet accounts:
When posting to balance sheet accounts the functional area can only be derived automatically using the derivation logic for function areas. In order to do this you must set the indicator Determine functional area for balance sheet accounts.
These restrictions are caused by technical reasons.
  5. If you have not set the indicator, the functional area will not be derived until you save. This allows the system to ensure that the functional area is only determined for actual data.
If, on the other hand, the functional area is derived on the entry screen, it may be that the functional area is also determined for data other than the actuals data, such as parked documents.
To stop the functional area being derived in special cases, SAP provides an uncritical modification. Contact SAP if you want to implement this modification.
