Definition
On account of the volume of entity types, it is sometimes desirable to find entity types with similar short descriptions.
If the checkbox 'Only similar short descriptions' is NOT selected, the system searches in the Repository Information System as usual.
You can, for example, enter 'Material' as the short description to find the entity type 11027. Alternatively, you can specify 'Material*' as the short description to find all entity types which have short descriptions beginning with 'Material'. You can of course specify further criteria to restrict the search.
If the checkbox 'Only similar short descriptions' IS selected, the system performs the search in three steps:
- The first step is the usual search (as described above).
- In the second step, the system searches for all entity types which have short descriptions similar to the short description entered (see below). The other selection criteria are ignored.
- In the third step, the entity types found in the first AND second steps are filtered out.
Similar short descriptions are those containing fragments which match. To verify this, the entered short description is broken down into these fragments. Fragments in this case are sequences of characters without special characters (e.g. hyphens, blanks, digits, commas, etc.).
Example: material-item-equipment-assignment is broken down into: material, item, equipment and assignment.
In the same way, the short descriptions of all entity types in the database are broken down. Then, the system checks whether there are any overlaps. If so, these are treated as 'similar'.
If you find either no entity types, or too few, with similar short descriptions, you can enter a slightly modified short description and restart the search.
