Using the Symbol tab page, you insert the following data (as symbols of the type Specification or Parameter):
- Data for the component specification management
- A value for a characteristic or table field (such as identifiers)
- A graphic, phrase, code, or key for a phrase-enabled characteristic
- Table field values for another SAP component
The following table lists all expansion possibilities:
Data Type of Symbol Expansion Mode Expansion Parameter

NM N (Input template)
M (Function module)

Dependencies
Depending on the expansion mode, you have certain expansion parameters available to you with which you can influence data output. You can define the expansion mode for a symbol in Customizing for Basic Data and Tools in the IMG activity Check and Specify Report Symbols. Which expansion modes are appropriate depends on which symbol type and which symbol group were assigned to the symbol in Customizing.
The expansion mode set as default in Customizing is used by the system and entered for the symbol on the Symbol tab page. You can change the setting manually on the tab page. If no values were defined for the fields NM and IT in Customizing, the system takes the content from the previous symbol.
