Definition

Controls the way in which the usages are compared. Comparisons are made in the following cases:

  • When selecting data, between the report generation variant (RGV) and the report data to be output (identifiers or value assignment instances)

In this case, various validity area checks are performed depending on the usage check specified.

  • During the preliminary check of the status check, between the usage for the report generation variant and the usage for the specification status

In this case, a 1:1 check for the validity areas is performed (usage check = 2). If the exclusion indicator is set, this constitutes an exception whereby the validity areas are expanded to their countries and regions.

  • During the instance check of the status check, between the usage for the data records that lead to their selection, and the usage for the specification status

In this case, various validity area checks are performed depending on the usage check specified.

For more information on the status check, see the Generation not permitted indicator.

Use

You use the following values to specify the cases in which the usage is considered as appropriate.

  • Value 0: The usage is appropriate if - with the same rating used - the generation variant validity area that is expanded to its countries and regions is the same as or is a subset of the expanded validity area of the usage with which it is to be compared.

    Example:

    • Generation variant: DE
    • Value assignment usage: REG_EU
    • If a safety data sheet is created for Germany, value assignment instances are also taken into account that are valid for the validity area REG_EU.
  • Value 1: The usage is appropriate if - with the same rating used - the generation variant validity area that is expanded to its countries and regions has an intersection containing values with the expanded validity area of the usage with which it is to be compared, or in other words, at least one country or region must match.

    Example:

    • Generation variant: DE, GR, CH, ES
    • Value assignment usage: DE, IT, FR, UK
  • Value 2: The usage is appropriate if - with the same rating used - the generation variant validity area and the validity area of the usage with which it is to be compared matches on a 1:1 basis. In this case the system does not expand the validity areas to their countries and regions. If the exclusion indicator is set, this constitutes an exception whereby the validity areas are expanded to their countries and regions.

    Example:

    • Generation variant: ADNR
    • Value assignment usage: ADNR
  • Value 3: The opposite of value 0 (subset). The usage is appropriate if - with the same rating used - the generation variant validity area that is expanded to its countries and regions is the same as or is a superset of the expanded validity area of the usage with which it is to be compared.

    Example:

  • For an installation made up of five plants (generation variant contains five plants), you are to specify whether radioactive waste can be disposed of. Since this is possible in plant 1 (value assignment instance has validity area plant 1), the appropriate data record is selected for the entire installation, for example:

- Generation variant: PLANT000 (all plants)
- Value assignment usage: PLANT1 or PLANT2 or PLANT3

Notes:

  • If you do not specify a value, the SAP System uses the value 0 as default.
  • In the usage for the data, you can set the Excluding indicator for the validity areas. In this case, the 1:1 search mode functions as follows:
  • Generation variant usage:

PUBLIC/REG_EU
Value assignment usage:
PUBLIC/REG_EU
PUBLIC/FR (with Excluding indicator)

The data record is not selected because REG_EU without France is a different validity area from REG_EU.
