Definition
Average earnings are determined at the end of the year for the previous calendar year.
Since statistical data is not available to calculate the average remuneration for the current and previous calendar year, a preliminary value is defined by law. The remuneration points for the calendar year of the pension start date and the previous calendar year are determined using the preliminary average remunerations defined for these years. This is also the case even if the final values are already available when the pension is awarded.
The average remuneration is a value that affects how the pension is calculated and thus also the pension benefit.
When the pension is calculated, remuneration points are determined for the individual calendar years of the insurance premiums by dividing the gross work income of the person insured by the respective average remuneration of all persons insured.
