Documentation
Definition
Rating that shows how often a person is open to the risk of very high exposure to an agent during working hours, either occasionally or for a very short time.
The short-time exposure limit (STEL) represents the maximum values measured during a shift, and which also reoccur at regular intervals.
Use
The frequency of the short-time exposure limit (1 - 4, for example) is always in direct relationship to the rating for the exposure amount
(A - E). You can specify one or more ratings.
Your entries are relevant for triggering protocols. The system uses the value with the highest rating (B1 instead of C4, for example) to trigger a protocol.
Procedure
Examples
One of the tasks of a group of workers in a tire manufacturing plant is manning a tire press. While the press is closed and the tire is being vulcanized, the workers are not exposed to any sort of agent. If the press is opened for a short time, steam escapes. The workers are directly exposed to this steam. During this time, the exposure measured is very high, and is therefore recorded as a short-time exposure limit.
