Definition
Allow proportional discount for partial payments using SAP Biller Direct.
Use
Set this indicator if a proportional discount is to be allowed for partial payments.
Dependencies
A proportional discount can be allowed if the right to a discount is not lost for partial payments using Biller Direct, see Allow Discount for more information. Bear in mind that you may experience rounding errors with proportional discounts. Limit the number of possible partial payments by setting a minimum payment amount.
The discount allowed by the system depends on the posting logic for partial payments, see Partial Payment Creation for more information. When creating the residual items, the system attempts to keep the total of roundings as low as possible where there are several partial payments, whereas for the partial payment logic it attempts to determine the exact proportional discount for each partial payment amount.
Example
The differing logic can be illustrated in the following simplified example. A bill for 0.75 EUR and 3% discount (approximately 0.02 EUR discount) is paid in 4 installments of 0.15 EUR.
With the residual items logic, the rounding differences for the discount are distributed to the individual installments.
Installment 1 without discount
Installment 2 with 0.01 discount
Installment 3 without discount
Installment 4 with 0.01 discount
Final payment of the residual amount of 0.13 EUR without discount.
With the partial payment logic, all installments are posted with the correct discount. Hence in the present example there are no discount postings for the individual installments (3% von 0,15 = 0,00). Only the final payment deals with the rounding differences. However, these may be lost after the discount period has expired.
Installment 1 without discount
Installment 2 without discount
Installment 3 without discount
Installment 4 without discount
Final payment of the residual amount of 0.13 EUR with 0.02 discount.
The rounding differences can mean the total of partial discounts exceeds the original discount. In the above example, if the customer pays 0.17 EUR for each installment, the following discount is allowed:
Installment 1 with 0.01 discount
Installment 2 with 0.01 discount
Installment 3 with 0.01 discount
Installment 4 with 0.01 discount
The final payment of the residual amount of 0.05 EUR is posted with a discount correction of 0.02.
