Definition
Name of the data carrier on which the original application file is saved.
- Using the Knowledge Provider for storage for the document type means that frontend computers are used that are accessable over the the file system.
- The following data carriers are supported when storage does not occur using Knowledge Provider:
- Archive, vault, server
- External document management system
Use
You do not have to enter the data carrier in the document info record
if the file is stored locally on your own computer.
The file is accessed via the path defined in the Original field.
You must enter the data carrier in the document info record
if the original application file is stored on a different computer.
Via settings in the Customizing, the system determines the additional characters in the path for the relevant hardware configuration.

Use
The system requires you to enter the data carrier if you want to process an original application file stored on another computer.
Enter the logical name of the data carrier here.
In the following processing situations, you do not need to enter a data carrier:
- If the file is stored locally on your own computer.
In this case, the system accesses the file using the path entered in theOriginal field. - If the file is automatically stored on a specific data carrier due to the function you select from the menu Extras -> Originals -> File.
- Save to SAP
- The system saves the data to the SAP database and automatically enters SAP database in the field.
The maximum size of the file (in bytes) is determined by your settings in Customizing under Define document types. - Save to archive
- The system determines the archive automatically and enters it in this field:
- Save to vault
- If more than one vault is defined in your company, you can select the vault from a list. The system automatically enters the vault in this field.
