Documentation
Definition
The shift abbreviation identifies a shift as a daily work schedule daily work schedule, an attendance/absence and/or an availability, and the corresponding working times based on the employee's work schedule.
Shift abbreviations can be defined and changed in the IMG for Shift Planning, under Specify Shift Groups.
Dependencies
You can define shift abbreviations as attendances, absences, on-call duties or substitutions. The system creates the corresponding infotypes when a shift change occurs.
Time data entered in the shift plan in the form of a shift abbreviation that is not defined in the assigned shift group is indicated with an * by the system. In this way, you can immediately recognize a shift abbreviation that is not permitted while you are still in the planning process.
If you alter time data in the shift plan in the form of a shift abbreviation, the system creates a substitution record in Time Management. You can specify which substitution type is used in the IMG for Shift Planning under Define Substitution Types.

Use
Enter a shift abbreviation here to provide the organizational unit to which an employee has been temporarily assigned with a working time that can be used as a default value for the employee.
This shift then allows the employee to be included in the shift planning process of the temporary organizational unit.
This shift proposal can be altered to meet any requirements.
Dependencies
Ths shift abbreviation must be defined in the shift group assigned to the organizational unit to which the employee in question has been temporarily assigned.
If this is not the case, an * is displayed in the shift plan of the temporary organizational unit when the shift proposal is made.

Use
Use shift abbreviations when defining requirements, to ensure that you have access to working times that have already been defined.
When you select a shift abbreviation, the system automatically enters the start and end times that relate to the shift.
Dependencies
If you then change the times that were automatically entered after you selected a shift abbreviation (except if they are classed as an availability), the shift abbreviation is removed from the shift plan, as it no longer applies to the employee's shift times.
You have now defined a requirement with individual start and end times.
If you then change the times that were automatically entered after you selected a shift abbreviation that is classed as an availability, the shift abbreviation is highlighted in the shift plan.
In this way, the availability type that was stored for the availability can still be seen after a change has been made.
