Definition
Certain countries require their withholding tax certificates to be assigned a unique, sequential number. This is the case in Argentina for example.
Numbers are assigned under the following scheme:
Each country is assigned one of three assignment methods that require the numbering classes to be assigned as follows:
- To each company code
- To each combination of company code + withholding tax type
- To each combination of company code + branch + withholding tax type (e.g. Argentina)
A numbering group is then assigned to each company code + numbering class combination.
When the certificate number is determined, an internal sequential number is then assigned within each numbering group.
