Documentation
Definition
Determines how a new document is created from the master data processing of an object (such as material).
Use
You can create documents in the following ways:
- Simple create
- Create using a transaction
Dependencies
The method you choose depends on the functions you want the link to have:
Simple create
You can link one original application file, without processing the document info record.
Select the desired original application file from the file manager. If the settings for check in into a secure storage area exist, then the system checks in the file into a secure storage area. The document info record for this original application is created automatically (internal number assignment).
To create this you must make the following settings in Customizing for Document Management, work step Define Document Types:
- Structure node Determine Object Link
Enter the value 1 (simple method for creating a document) in field Create Document.
- Structure node Define Document Types, Detail screen
- SAP recommends you check in original application files using the Knowledge Provider.
- Choose in the field Number Assignment a value that supports internal number assignment (for example: value 1 - Only internal number assignment).
- Enter in the field Number Range an internal number range.
- Enter in Define Profile a storage category for checking in into a secure storage area.
Create using a transaction
You can create a document info record by calling the transaction Create Document. After creating the document you can contine processing the object.
For this kind of creation you must do the following in Customizing for Document Management, work step Define Document Types, structure node Determine Object Link.
Enter in field Create Document the value 2 (create using a transaction).
Example
Example for using the simple create:
You are processing a rental agreement and would like to link it to a business letter.
In Customizing you would determine:
- A document type for business letters
- The simple method for the object link businness letter - rental contract
