Definition

Specifies whether and from which source characteristic values are copied in the case of a goods receipt for a PO or production order.

Use

You can control whether the characteristic values are:

  • Not copied
  • Copied from the classification of an original batch or WIP batch only
  • Copied from the configuration of a PO or production order item only
  • Copied from the configuration and then supplemented by characteristic values from the classification
  • Copied from the classification and then supplemented by characteristic values from the configuration

The system adopts the values of the characteristics of the same name in the GR batch in each case. If several sources are allowed, the system first copies the characteristic values from the priority source and then populates the still-initial characteristics with values from the second source where applicable.

Example

You have made the setting Characteristics from Classification (Priority) and Configuration. The class of the goods receipt batch contains the following characteristics: QUALITY, COLOR, LENGTH, and WIDTH.

The Original batch for the production order comprises the characteristics QUALITY and COLOR, because these are not changed in production. The configuration of the production item comprises the characteristics QUALITY, COLOR, LENGTH, and WIDTH.

The system first adopts the characteristic values for QUALITY and COLOR from the original batch. It then adopts the values for LENGTH and WIDTH from the configuration of the production item because these characteristics are still initial.
