Definition

The cardinality describes the level of the relationship between the source and target determination values.

  • If the cardinality is 1:1, each source determination object has exactly one target determination object assigned and vice versa.
  • If the cardinality is 1:N, a source determination value may have more than one target determination value assigned.
  • If the cardinality is N:1, a target determination value may have more than one source determination value assigned.
  • If the cardinality is N:M, a source determination object may have more than one target determination object assigned and a target determination object may have more than one source determination object assigned.

In other words, the source cardinality is 1 if each source determination value occurs exactly once in the list of relationships. The source cardinality is N if at least one source determination value occurs more than once.

The target cardinality is 1 if each target determination value occurs exactly once in the list of relationships. The target cardinality is N if at least one target determination value occurs more than once.
