Definition

A field is an attribute of an entity that can contain a set of data of the same type.

Fields are not independent objects in the ABAP Dictionary. They can exist only in the context of a table.

Each table field refers to a data element and, thus, to a domain assuming their attributes. Its formal attributes are determined by the domain, its special function and representation by the data element assigned to it.
