Definition

Indicates whether the system should reduce the BOM during multi-level price determination so that prices can be calculated without errors and passed on.

Extreme price changes or negative prices can occur in the following cases:

  • Production orders are not settled yet.
  • Production orders contain large quantities of work in process.
  • Postings are missing.
  • The wrong quantities were posted.

You can perform multilevel price determination despite this error by reducing the actual BOM.

Procedure

  1. First, perform multi-level price determination without setting the indicator.
  2. If errors occur for the materials, check whether:
    1. the relevant production orders were settled.
    2. goods receipts can be posted for production orders with large quantities of work in process.
    3. the relevant postings need to be corrected or completed.
If you have to make such postings, price determination will have to be performed once more, meaning that you will have to select the materials again, specify the costing sequence and repeat single-level and multi-level material price determination.
  3. Make any necessary postings and redetermine the material prices. If extreme price changes or negative prices still exist, perform multi-level price determination with the indicator set, and enter a threshold value (in percent) for price changes in the field Error for changes larger than.

The system works according to the following process for each material price determination:

  1. Step 1
First, the system attempts to perform 'ordinary' multi-level price determination, in that differences from the input materials are passed on to the higher levels.
If the percentage threshold is exceeded for the material, the system goes on to the next step. Otherwise, the material price is correctly determined on a multi-level basis.
  2. Step 2
In this step, the system calculates the target consumption for all procurement alternatives with excessive price changes or negative prices.
A procurement alternative has an excessive price change or a negative price if,
    • the sum of the variances from its input materials in this procurement alternative add up to a price that varies from the standard price by more than the percentage threshold value.
    • the sum of the variances from its input materials in this alternative add up to a negative price.

For the procurement alternatives that have excessive price changes or negative prices, the lesser of the actual and target consumption is used.

In this step, if the threshold percentage is still exceeded or if negative prices are calculated, the system goes on to the next step. Otherwise, the material price is determined with multi-level price determination using a reduced actual BOM.

You can see which input materials were reduced in the multi-level material price determination document.

  3. Step 3
In this step, the multi-level material price determination ignores the differences from procurement alternatives that have excessive price changes or negative prices.
If the percentage threshold is still exceeded, the system issues an error message for the material. You can then use the material's error document to determine exactly what is causing the error.
Otherwise, the material price is determined with multi-level price determination using a reduced actual BOM.
In the document for multi-level material settlement, you see which input materials were ignored.
