Definition
Specifies the total volume of the handling unit.
Determination of the total volume depends on the packaging material.
For open packaging materials, such as pallets, total volume is calculated from the tare volume of the packaging (=packaging materials) and the volume of the contents.
For closed packaging materials, such as boxes with lids, the total volume is equal to the tare volume of the packaging.
An indicator specifies whether the packaging material in question is open or closed.
