Definition
Name of the external program that the job step is to carry out. Usually, you need only enter the name of the program. You may, however, need to enter the full path to the program as well. Do not enter any parameters or arguments for the program in this field.

An external program is a command or program that is entered by the system administrator in a job step. It is entered in the same form as it would be at the operating system command prompt. It should not be confused with an "external command" (also known as a "logical command"). An external command is a definition that represents an external program in the SAP system. The external-command mechanism makes it possible to limit access to external commands from within the SAP system, since each such external command is protected by SAP authorizations.
A user must have administrator authorizations (authorization object S_RZL_ADM authorization value 01) to enter an external program in a background job
