Definition

An internal ID number assigned to each batch job. The number is based upon the time at which a job was scheduled, and is needed by users only for debugging and trouble-shooting.

For programming, the job number is needed, together with the job name, to identify a particular job. The combination of number and name uniquely identifies a job. The number is returned by the background processing system when a job is created by a program.
