Definition

Indicates that the business partner is a monetary financial institution (MFI).

Monetary financial institutions (MFI) include central banks, resident banks in the context of community law, and other resident financial institutions whose business activities include taking financial deposits or substitutes, in the stricter sense of assets, as a monetary institution, and providing loans at their own risk and/or investing in securities.

Use

Monetary financial institutions are listed by the European Central Bank, with the aim of gathering detailed reporting information about the money issuing sector in the EURO zone.

The German Federal Bank carries out surveys of the business performed by monetary financial institutions as part of its monthly accounting statistics.
