Definition

A balance characteristic can be used in Variant Configuration to check that the configuration is complete. You can only use this function for the Sales Configuration Engine (SCE).

Internally, a balance characteristic has a debit side and a credit side, for settling quotations or requirements for specific resources in the configuration (for example, electricity consumption against electricity supply).

The values of a balance characteristic can only be calculated and inferred by object dependencies (rule nets). In the SCE, the values in the debit and credit sides are automatically used to check the completeness of the configuration. If debit is greater than credit, an incompleteness message is generated.

Note:

  • Balance characteristics must be numeric.
  • Allowed values, default values, and the Entry required indicator are irrelevant.
  • Do not assign values to balance characteristics in classification.
  • If you do not define dependencies to aggregate the amounts to be balanced, both sides have the value 0.
