Definition

"Container", which holds all active components and data which are required in the monitoring architecture.

A monitoring segment has two implementations:

• As shared memory (a memory-mapped file), which serves as the active repository of monitoring data
• As a set of database tables. This "database segment" offers the same functionality as the shared memory implementation but offers system-wide visibility, in contrast to the shared memory implementation.This system-wide accessibility is important for the subset of MTEs that are system-wide in scope, such as the data supplier programs and associated MTEs that monitor background processing.
