Definition

Proprietary Code specifies the primary procurement source for the subject part number and the relationship of proprietary rights to the originator of the data.

The originator of data differ between S, T & V files. In provisioning fixed length record system, it is the airframe or engine manufacturer (as specificed by the Transmitter of Data Code in the Header Record) in case of "S" files and the End Item Manufacturer (noted in the control segment) in a "T" file.

In the provisioning variable length "V" file and procurement data systems, the originator of data is the supplier (referenced by the Supplier Code in the Procurement Data Segment and Procurement Data Record).

Business Rules

  1. The numeric code in PRP TEI signifies that the number in the Part Number field is assigned by the manufacturer of the subject part.
  2. The alpha code signifies that the number in the Part Number field is assigned by the originator of the data. It also implies that the manufacturer's assigned part number is noted in the Overlength Part Number, Selected Item Reference Number or Control Specification/Drawing Number field.

Dependencies

It is applicable only to Fixed format S/T files.
