Definition

Part Number is the manufacturer's, supplier's or industry standard identity for the subject part, assembly, kit or material item. Part Number along with its Manufacturer Code provides a unique identity for the given item.

When a new record is created, Part Number is always displayed last in the list of five positional & mandatory data elements in the Procurement Data Tape Record Layout for customer and supplier. The other four include Record Type Code, Change Code, Supplier Code and Manufacturer Code.

Business Rule

  1. Each alpha "O" appearing in the part number will be replaced by a numeric zero.
  2. Blank spaces and/or special characters separating two numeric characters will be replaced by a single dash (-) and closed up as necessary.
  3. Blank spaces and/or special characters not separating two numeric characters will be eliminated and closed up.
  4. Part Numbers are to necessarily conform with the 15 character limit. Part numbers exceeding the limit will be changed to meet the requirements.
  5. A unique reference number (to be used for all Spec 2000 processing) is assigned to the Part Number field if an item lacks a part number or cannot be reduced to fifteen characters. A reference to the complete, overlength Part Number will be stated in the corresponding Explanation Code 11 text, in Provisioning fixed format applications and TEI "OPN" for Procurement Planning and Provisioning variable format applications.
  6. The dash (-) is the only special character permitted in the Part Number (reference number) field. This is however not allowed as the last position of a part number.

As described in ATA Spec 2000.

Dependencies

Input data for part number changes can be categorized into two areas, partial (limited/split effectivity) and complete replacement at a Catalog Sequence Number. These changes are applicable to both the replaced (old) part numbers and the replacing (new) part numbers.

The type of Change Code and the subsequent changes affected on the Catalogue Sequence Number (CSN) are detailed below:

Partial - Replaced Part Number

PNRF"R" - Changes on recommended quantity, unit price, etc.

ADRF"R" - Limited/split effectivity for the old part number change

ADRV "N" - An Explanation Code 1-3, 6 or 7 for each CSN besides a Sequence Number, & Text Counter. The text will reflect the literal "NEW" followed by the Manufacturer Code and new Part Number. Reason for change is also explained by issuing Explanation Code 44 or 55.

Example:

        EC    SN    TC    CC    TEXT

        01    01    01    N    NEW81205AA1-5

Partial - Replacing Part Number

PNRF "R / N" - Changes as applicable in PNRF N / R codes, including changes on Recommended Quantity, unit price, etc.

ADRF "N" - Limited/split effectivity for the new Part Number change

ADRV "N" - An Explanation Code 1-3, 6 or 7 for each CSN besides a Sequence Number & Text Counter. The text will reflect the literal "OLD" followed by the Manufacturer Code and old Part Number. Explanation Code of 44 or 55 will be issued to identify the reason for change.

Example:

        EC    SN    TC    CC    TEXT

        01    01    01    N    OLD81205AA1-1

Complete - Replaced Part Number

PNRF "R" - Changes on Recommended Quantity, unit price, etc.

ADRF - Total quantity changed to 00000 and the effectivity is changed to 000000 in all previously entered fields

ADRV "N" - An applicable Explanation Code besides the text will reflect the literal "NEW" followed by the Manufacturer Code and the new Part Number. Also Explanation Code of 44 or 55 will be used to identify the reason for change

PNRF "D" - Deletion of an entire part number record set

ADRF "D" - Deletion of the entire applied data record set including related ADRV's

Example:

        EC    SN    TC    CC    TEXT

        03    01    01    N    NEW81205GA53-505

Complete - Replacing Part Number

PNRF "N/R" - Applicable as in PNRF N / R codes

ADRF "N" - Limited/split effectivity for the new Part Number change

ADRV "N" - An applicable Explanation Code 1-3, 6 or 7 besides a Sequence Number & Text Counter. The text will reflect the literal "OLD" followed by the Manufacturer Code and the old part number. Reason for the change is identified by issuing Explanation Code of 44 or 55.

Example:

        EC    SN    TC    CC    TEXT

        03    01    01    N    OLD81205GA53-503

Note:

Change Codes:    R - Replaces the existing record

D - Deletes the existing record

            N - Establishes a new record
