Definition
o Optional Part Number Text Data Set Group identifies a part which is completely interchangeable in form, fit and function with the subject part number, thus providing a choice of parts for procurement and support purposes.
o Alternate Part Number Text Data Set Group identifies a part which fully meets required functional and structural specifications, but differs either in overall dimensions, connections, installations and/or mounting provisions and requires additional parts, rework or modification to install it in a specific location as an alternative to the subject part number.
o Modified Commercial Part Number Text Data Set Group identifies a commercial part which is modified or reworked to the subject part number identity classified as Optional Make or Buy(Proprietary Code 1 or J).
