Definition
This indicator allows you to calculate variances for cost object IDs with this cost object category.
For cost object categories that are used for cost object hierarchies, this indicator is always set as a default.
Note:
It is not possible to calculate variances for general cost objects and CO product groups.
Use
If you settle the actual costs collected at the level of the hierarchy as price differences instead of carrying out a distribution, the variances are calculated separately for each hierarchy node.
Procedure
Examples
Inventory differences for the material components required to manufacture the products in the cost object hierarchy cannot be assigned to any order. Instead, these costs are assigned to the node "production line".
To calculate variances for this node, the target material costs are calculated in the standard cost estimates for the products in the hierarchy. Actual material costs that were collected at order level or at levels of the hierarchy below that of the production line are summarized and compared with the target material costs. The difference between the target material costs and actual material costs for the production line is shown as a price variance, quantity variance, resource-usage variance, and so forth.
Dependencies
The variance key field is only active in the cost object master data when this indicator is set.
