Definition

Indicates the processor's decision on the submitted claim. There are two levels: claim and item.

At claim level, the decision code indicates whether the claim was approved, partially rejected or completely rejected.

At item level, the decision code provides a brief description of whether the item was accepted or rejected and specifies the reason for a rejection.

For pending claims, the dealer uses the item level decision codes to correct errors made in the original claim.
