Definition
Way of goods or services to reach the customer. Typical examples of distribution channels are wholesale trade, retail trade or direct sales.
Use
For each sales organization and distribution channel, you can define data relating to customers and materials. Within a sales organization, you are able to supply a particular customer via several distribution channels.
A specific distribution channel can be assigned to one or several sales organization(s). If you work with a number of sales organizations, it is possible that each of these sales organizations makes use, for instance, of the distribution channel: Wholesale trade.
Note
Moreover, you can assign one or several division(s) defined for the sales organization in question to any combination of sales organization and distribution channel. Consequently, you may assign the divisions of food and non-food, for instance, to the distribution channel: Wholesale trade.
A specific combination of sales organization, distribution channel and division is called sales area.
