Definition
Break-down of the items in a bill of material according to defined criteria, e.g. according to the object reference (such as material master record, document info record) or according to the inventory management.
Use
The break-down permits to process item-relevant data. The selection of item types enables you to control, for instance, the field selection, value proposals when maintaining bills of material, or specific system operations.
Examples
Stock item
For this item type, material data are administered which permit to manage inventory.
Document item
For this item type, document data are managed which, for instance, permit to edit original files (e.g. graphic editing under PowerPoint).
Class item (for configurable bills of material)
For configurable bills of material, you can indicate a class as place holder for selectable items. Either materials or documents can be classified in this class.
If the characteristic value is assigned at the time of configuration, the class node is replaced by the object that matches the characteristic value assigned during configuration. The maintenance work for variant bills of material is reduced, as it is no longer necessary to record all items individually and to provide them with a selection condition.
Class items can also be used in MRP.
Structural element of Maintenance
This item is intended for the mere constructural structuring of the equipment (assembly of Maintenance).
Materials which you want to record as structural element of Maintenance, should be maintained under the material type IBAU.
