Definition

If you activate this indicator, the market data area will be used as a public market data area for contract data. At present, this applies to:

  • Reference interest rates
  • Exchange rate categories

Use

Flag one market data area as a public market data area. If you do not, all reference interest rates and exchange rates will assumed to be non-existent or will not be recognized by the contract data view in the system.

Therefore, always make sure that you have flagged one, and only one, market data area as a public market data area. If you flag more than one market data area as public, this can result in ambiguous definitions for reference interest rates and exchange rate categories.

If you use market data areas to keep market data separate for different parts of a corporate group, and you flag more than one market data area as a public market data area, you will not be able to correctly evaluate transactions both from the point of view of the legal entity in which the transaction was originally concluded, and from the point of view of the corporate group as a whole, at the same time.

Dependencies

You can assign the "Public Market Data Area" indicator only to master market data areas.

Example

You have flagged two market data areas as public market data areas. This means that the reference interest rates and exchange rates contained in these market data areas are not unique. This is a problem because the definitions for reference interest rate "REF1" are different in market data areas "A" and "B".

Consequently, if you actually wanted to use the definition of "REF1" from market data area "A" for a transaction, but if the system analyzes this same transaction with market data from market data "B", then the wrong definition will have been used to calculate the forward rate, and the reference interest rate will be incorrect. This means that, even if the market data in market data areas "A" and "B" is identical, you will still get different values for the forward rate.

If, however, you have flagged only market data area "A" as a public market data area, the system will know that the definition of the reference interest rate for calculating the forward rate can come only from market data area "A", even if market data from market data area "B" are used for the evaluation. In this case, if both market data areas contain the same market data (and if the definitions of the yield curves used in the calculation are identical), then the forward rates that are calculated will also be identical.
