Definition
A key used for storing and updating the exchange rates of a rate category in the rate tables of the cross-application currency translation function.
Use
Enter a rate type if the exchange rates of an exchange rate category are to be updated in the rate tables of the cross-application currency translation function. You create the rate categories for this in the section General Settings -> Currencies.
If you do not specify a rate type, the system will not update the exchange rates.
Only the middle rates are updated. If the rate category is "spreads," then rate spreads are also updated.
The system applies the following rules when updating exchange rates:
- Every manual and automatic change is updated.
- If you create a new rate or a new rate spread in a rate category, the system creates a new rate or rate spread in the rate tables of the cross-application currency translation function.
- If you change a rate or rate spread in a rate category, the system updates the most recent rate version in the rate tables of the cross-application currency translation function.
- If you logically delete a rate or a rate spread in a rate category, then the same rate or rate spread is deleted physically in the rate tables of the cross-application currency translation function.
- If there are different translation ratios in the rate category and the rate type, this is taken into account.
- The system rounds rates and rate spreads when it upda tes them. The system uses the shorter rate format in the rate tables of the cross-application currency translation function for this.
- The system updates only rate (spread) changes that you made after you entered a value in the Rate Type field.
Example
Before you export data from Bank Analyzer into, say, BI, you can use the rate type to convert Bank Analyzer exchange rates into a rate format that is available in all SAP systems.
