Definition

The key of an alternative rate category.

Use

You use alternative rate categories if you want to use a different rate category for translating particular currency pairs, or for translating currencies after a specified date.

Example

  • From 01/01/1999 (introduction of the European Monetary Union) it is possible to use a particular rate category as the alternative rate category for EMU currencies. This rate category defines the fixed rates between the EMU currencies, and allows you to treat the currencies of the member states of the EMU in a special way.
  • If you selected a reference currency for a rate category, but you want certain exchange rates to be read directly, and not calculated in relation to the reference currency, then you can specify an alternative rate category for these currency pairs (without a reference currency).
