Definition
Defines whether an exchange rate is indirectly or directly quoted.
- For indirectly quoted rates, the rate defines how many units of the from-currency are required for one unit of the to-currency. If you want to convert an amount in the from-currency into the to-currency, the amount is then divided by this rate.
Example of indirectly quoted exchange rate (from-currency = DEM, to-currency = EUR): 1.95583 DEM has a value of 1 EUR. - For indirectly quoted rates, the rate defines how many units of the to-currency are required for one unit of the from-currency. If you want to convert an amount from the from-currency to the to-currency, the amount is then multiplied by this rate.
Example of directly quoted exchange rate (from-currency = DEM, to-currency = EUR): 1 DEM costs 0.51129 EUR.
