Use
Materials may differ in terms of certain characteristics, for example, colour or size. Different vendors may use different descriptions for these characteristics.
In the ERP system, you can store the vendor-specific characteristic values for all characteristic values used in your company. You then assign these values to your internal values. If you have not entered a vendor characteristic value for an internal value, the system uses the internal value. You could use the conversion of internal characteristics value into vendor-specific characteristic values during a purchase order printout, for example.
In the standard system, the assignment of vendor-specific characteristic values to internal characteristic values depends only on the vendor and not on the relevant materials.
In the case of generic materials that have many characteristic variants, it may not be necessary to define the characteristic values for each vendor and characteristic, but instead to ensure that each generic material has its own characteristic values for the particular vendor, so that the definition of the vendor-specific characteristic values takes place at generic material level and is therefore valid for all variants of the generic material while still allowing variations between generic materials.
You can continue to store other material categories (such as single materials) at vendor level as before.
Requirements
This function is only available for generic materials in a Retail system.
You must create the relevant characteristic values in the classification system. Since material-dependent maintenance of the vendor-specific characteristic values can only take place in material master maintenance, and not in the vendor master maintenance, the characteristic must be assigned to a merchandise category, a merchandise category hierarchy level, or a characteristics profile, before it can be available for creating a generic material.
Standard settings
In the standard system, you can only store vendor-specific characteristic values for generic materials independently of the materials that use this conversion.
Activities
When you activate this function, you can enter material-specific vendor characteristic values for generic materials.
