In Waste Management, some fields are intended for value assignment using phrases. This means you cannot enter text information directly in these fields but you must choose a predefined phrase from a phrase set. This ensures that only meaningful texts are assigned to these fields. In order to be able to assign phrases to the corresponding fields, you must

• Create the phrase sets in phrase management in the Basic Data and Tools component and assign them to the fields
• Create or import the phrases in phrase management in the Basic Data and Tools component and assign them to the phrase sets

You do not need to make any settings for them in Customizing.

You will find the fields intended for value assignment using phrases and the assigned phrase sets in the Basic Data and Tools menu under Phrase -> Display phrase set-attribute assignment -> Tables / structure fields. The keys of the tables and structures relevant for Waste Management start with EHSWAT.

Note:

To avoid data inconsistencies, you should assign the same phrase sets to fields that appear in different places in Waste Management and have the same meaning. This is particularly relevant for the following cases in the standard system:

• You can specify packaging categories for both disposal documents (table EHSWAT_MNPOS, field MNPACCAT) and for waste codes in waste approvals (table EHSWAT_APPWAKEY, field APPACCAT).
• You can specify process codes both in specification management for wastes (characteristic SAP_EHS_1024_004_DISPOS_PROCED) and in Waste Management for waste codes in waste approvals (table EHSWAT_APPWAKEY, field APDISPROC).
• You can specify disposal methods both in specification management for wastes (characteristic SAP_EHS_1024_004_DISPOS_METHOD) and in Waste Management for waste codes in waste approvals (table EHSWAT_APPWAKEY, field APDISMETH).

Recommendation

We recommend that you create the required phrase sets with phrases and assign them to the fields when you set up the system. This means you provide users with possible value assignments right from the start. At any stage in the future, you can extend, modify, or create new phrases and phrase sets according to the current requirements.
